PRESS RELEASE – TAX CONSULTANT SOLICITATION

October 13, 2011

It has come to my attention that there are some real estate tax consulting companies soliciting their services via postcard mailings boasting claims to reduce your tax bill by thousands of dollars. I would like you to know that there is no need to hire an outside company to review your assessment or file an assessment appeal on your behalf.

Tax consultants and lawyers can do all the work of an assessment review and possible appeal for you – for a fee. It is your choice to decide to do so. My office makes every effort to assist the homeowner and strongly encourages (prefers) persons to forgo the costs and do it yourself

Please feel free to contact our office with any questions you may have regarding your assessment. My staff and I are happy to discuss and review your assessment with you. We can evaluate the evidence and if warranted make a change to your assessment without necessitating further appeal. It is also advisable to contact my office as soon as possible; we expect to be very busy. Contact my office in person, via phone or email, contact information is below.

We make every effort to make data and instructions available to assist in evaluating your assessment. The Township website has detailed instructions on how to evaluate your assessment, type of evidence, and instructions on how to use the Lake County site. Additionally, there are spreadsheets listing all the sales in the Township for the past three years
